About Joy Silha
I've been a Qualitative Researcher for 30 years and I now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico after living and working in New York City and Los Angeles.. I’m naturally curious and I'm always looking for creative ideas and solutions. I study behavioral economics, neuroscience and the social sciences because I'm interested in psychology, our brains and how we create and react to our world.
I approach my work with an open mind, ready to explore and see what's really there. I have laser-like listening skills coupled with keen analytic skills which leads to creative business solutions.
Prior to my own business, I worked on the Quantitative side of research as Research Manager at HBO and Market Facts. This gives me a broad perspective and the ability to recommend an appropriate methodology for any issue. I prefer Qualitative Research, being more fascinated with the underlying motivations and behavior of people and the generation of free-flowing ideas.
Moving to New Mexico was a big change! The open sky, land and light of the Southwest has helped me to slow down and balance my life, at the same time stimulating my creativity and imagination.
During my free time you’ll find me writing or riding my horse. I love horses because they are magnificent animals and our relationship with them is complex. They have taught me so many lessons about myself, communication and leadership. They mirror our feelings with some people calling them a "mirror to our soul." Horses have shown me how to listen to different ways of communicating which informs my work as a researcher and my relationships with the people I interview, my clients and with people in my personal life.
I have a B.A. in Sociology, which is where Qualitative Research originated, in the Social and Behavioral Sciences. I am a member of QRCA (Qualitative Research Consultants Association), a published writer and speaker and a Volunteer for The Humane Society of the US. where I work on legislative advocacy and animal issues as well as the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. I believe how we treat animals is a reflection of who we are, and I am passionate about protecting them and creating a more humane world.
